Mediation is a conflict resolution process that is used in close cooperation with the courts and various community organizations. Cases such as small claims court disputes are often referred by the courts for mediation by trained volunteers. This training is offered by Mediation Matters, a nonprofit agency that provides a variety of mediation services and receives its funding from the New York court system.

The Trainer

Peter Glassman is a Capital District native, a licensed attorney, and a certified mediator and trainer. By his own admission, he is funny as hell and quite humble. Since 2000, Peter has designed and run dozens of mediation trainings for hundreds of individuals from all professions and backgrounds.  Peter is a Certified Mediation Trainer for the NYS Office of Court Administration.

Course Description

This course offers full immersion in mediation, incorporating group discussion, demonstration, and skill practice through role play. Participants will learn and practice the skills they will need as community mediators and an enhanced understanding of communication and conflict for their own lives.

Graduates of this training are eligible to apply to our apprenticeship program. Apprentices observe real cases and debrief with the mediators after each session as well as co-mediate with mentor mediators. The experience is fortified by evening and weekend continuing education opportunities which focus on each aspect of mediation and introduce more advanced discussion. After taking this basic training, you will also be qualified to take further advanced trainings in specific subject areas.

The cost of this training is $450. (Please make checks out to Mediation Matters.) Also includes all training materials and lunch each day.

Space is limited; spots will be filled as complete applications are received.
