MEDIATION MATTERS can help school communities through the communication of issues and the consideration of solutions.

Differences of opinion and the conflict that may result are normal to the human condition and to interactions between people of all ages. Clearly, such conflict does not have to be taught or learned. What does have to be taught and learned are the skills involved in the appropriate management and resolution of conflict. This is where Mediation Matters comes in.

Mediation Matters, serving the needs of students, teachers and staff in a variety of school districts in both Albany and Rensselaer Counties since 1987, provides programming in the areas of communication, conflict resolution, violence prevention and mediation. Our programs address a root problem noted by many educators - the fundamental lack of skills among our young people in dealing with conflict situations. Our primary goal is to demonstrate - for students, parents, teachers and administrators - ways of interacting that are mutually respectful, acknowledge diversity and create an atmosphere of support for the peaceful resolution of conflict within both the school and the surrounding community.
